CIF is hosting a BLUE CIRCLE virtual event on both November 2 & 4, 2021, to provide an update on the transition of Ontario’s blue box program to full producer responsibility and the work CIF is doing to support municipal and First Nation staff. The event is being delivered in four 90-minutes sessions over two days. See the times and descriptions of each session below and register today!
Session 1: Transition to Producer Responsibility: What we know now.
Tuesday, November 2, 2021. 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Transition is happening, but what does that mean, exactly? In this session, they’ll take a step back and present an overview of what CIF knows, and don’t yet know, about the transition. They’ll also speak to what the CIF has been doing and their plans for the future.
Session 2: Working with contracts in the lead-up to transition.
Tuesday, November 2, 2021. 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
This session will focus on the in’s and out’s of contracts during the lead-up to transition. Managing an existing contract, negotiating a new contract, and ensuring fair compensation can have unique challenges with so much change on the horizon. Municipal staff and subject matter experts will join them and take your questions.
Session 3: Transition planning for collection and post-collection
Thursday, November 4, 2020. 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
CIF is working to streamline its transition planning. Join them for this session to hear your municipal peers and CIF staff talk about the new Collection (curbside/depots) and Post-Collection (transfer stations/MRFs) decision making and asset valuation tools and resources now available.
Session 4: What to expect when you’re expecting multiple PROs?
Thursday, November 4, 2020. 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Ontario’s blue box regulation allows there to be more than one Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) – a notable difference from the program in British Columbia. In this session, you’ll hear what’s happening in jurisdictions around the world that have more than one PRO operating programs, such as Germany, Austria, and the United States. They’ll also share strategies municipalities and First Nation communities can utilize to contribute to the successful implementation of producer responsibility in Ontario.
Use the registration form to sign up for any or all of the panels described above.
The deadline for registering is October 29, 2021.
This Blue Circle event is for municipal and First Nation staff only and is free of charge to participants.
