2025 MWA Fall Workshop

Please join us on Tuesday, October 28 at Hockley Valley Resort for a day to learn, talk waste management, and connect. The agenda focuses on managing disasters from a waste perspective in the morning, and a discussion on all things Blue Box in the afternoon as we prepare for significant changes on January 1, 2026.  Most important – we hope to provide a place to meet colleagues, share information, and better understand pressures facing our waste systems.

Morning Theme: Weathering the Storm

• When natural disasters strike – flood, fire, or ice – how do municipalities respond?
• Featured Speaker and Panel Moderator: Cathy Boswell Clark – specialist in psychosocial resilience training during emergency response.
• Panel Discussion: "Managing Disaster – A Waste Perspective", featuring municipal and private sector experts.
• Hear from Halton Region on the Burlington flood response and municipalities impacted by the spring 2025 ice storm.
• City of Kawartha Lakes will share their experiences of chaos to clean up from natural disasters from 2025.
  

Afternoon Theme: Blue Box Regulation – Preparing for Big Changes

• Learn about the recent amendments and changes coming on January 1, 2026, under the Blue Box Regulation and how communities are preparing.
• Featured Speakers to include guests from RPRA, and Peter Hargreave, President, Policy Integrity.
• Panel Discussion: "Sorting It All Out – How Communities are Preparing for January 1", featuring some honest conversation with municipal colleagues.
