Resource Productivity & Recovery Authority. RPRA oversees circular economy laws with unique enforcement powers. This presentation will cover challenges driving compliance, tracking data, and establishing a level playing field. Innovative approaches like communications for compliance (C4C) and stakeholder engagement, as well as tools for enforcement. And complexities of circular economy regulatory frameworks, including identifying free riders and navigating policy barriers.

City of Hamilton. In response to low participation rates in Hamilton's single-family green bin program, Hamilton conducted focus groups in October 2023 to determine what was working well, what the most common barriers were for people who were not participating and received feedback on how to make the program more effective.

Municipality of Chatham-Kent. The preparation for Blue Box Transition included an update to waste management asset inventory, undertaking an extensive Ineligible Recycling Sources Study, and multiple reports to Council including an approved recommendation to discontinue service to IC&I ineligible sources. This presentation will provide an overview of these preparation steps, success, and pitfalls after four months into Transition.

Come along with them as they guide you through the progression of battery recycling, encompassing innovative curbside pickup programs, the transition from collection boxes to Smart Containers, and the advancement from manual to automated sorting. Region of Peel. Hazardous and Special Products (HSP) and Electronic and Electrical Equipment (EEE) in the recycling and garbage streams can pose significant operational and health and safety risks to waste processing systems and workers. Hear about the Region's journey in piloting the collection of these materials from the multi-residential audience, seeking Council approval for the program, with an update on the program's implementation.

City of Peterborough. Peterborough's Waste Management Master Plan, led by consultants, prioritizes waste diversion, and fiscal responsibility. Key initiatives like "GROW – Green Resource Organics Works" and a federally-funded composting facility underscore the city's sustainability efforts. Initial results show high resident compliance and significant organic waste diversion, prompting plans for Phase II to extend efforts to condos and multi-residential buildings.
